Activities in Cape Town
Cape Town, the Mother City, is South Africa’s most visited destination. From beach to bush, from Table Mountain to the Winelands, the visitor will never tire of the endless activities and sights on offer. Table Bay was originally a victualling stop for the VOC (Dutch East India Company). The harbour has now been spectacularly redeveloped as the world’s flagship waterfront, the V&A Waterfront, with shops, shows, music and a range of superb restaurants. Boat trips are possible around the working harbour and out to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for so many years. Table Mountain, with the two mountains which flank it, Lion’s Head and Devil’s Peak, offers spectacular views to the North over the bay, and to the South, down The Twelve Apostles – a spiny ridge which leads to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. A cable car takes visitors up the mountain. The route to Cape Point, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans are said to meet, gives the visitor endless opportunities to visit beaches, lighthouses, animal and bird sanctuaries and to drive along some of the world’s most spectacular scenery, including the well-known Chapman’s Peak Drive. South Africa is famous for its wine - and rightly so. Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl are all within an easy drive of Floréal House and a large number of vineyards offer tours and tastings to visitors. Many of the buildings are in the Cape Dutch architectural style - a testament to 350 years of settlement since the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck in 1652. A week is not enough in Cape Town! Floréal House has a preferred operator, who will escort guests to all of the above and many more. If you would like us to make a booking on your behalf, please arrange it in advance if possible. Alternatively, hire a car and drive yourself.
