Africa's abundant wildlife is without a doubt the main attraction at Nguni River Lodge. Experience close encounters with both the Big Five and numerous smaller animal, bird and reptile species on either game walks, horseback safari's or open game drive vehicles led by professional game guides.

Addo Elephant Park
Situated in a malaria free area just one hour's drive from the South African coastal city of Port Elizabeth, the magnificently diverse Addo Elephant National Park offers a wide variety of game viewing, outdoor adventure, accommodation and cultural experiences. You will be amazed at the variety of natural landscapes and wildlife species that can be experienced in one easily accessible destination.
You've heard about Africa's Big 5 - the elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo. Well, the Addo Elephant National Park is about to become the only wildlife park in the world where you can view Africa's Big 7 in their natural environment - Yes, with the expansion of the park, you will be able to see the Big 5 plus whales and great white sharks - all in one great park comprising a 240 000 hectare terrestrial zone and a 120 000 hectare marine zone.
Eastern Cape
The Eastern Cape is the only province in South Africa, and one of the few places on earth, where all seven biomes (major vegetation types) converge. Key attractions include:
The rugged beauty of the Wild Coast.
Port Elizabeth, sunshine capital of the Eastern Cape with its friendly people and excellent beaches.
The Tsitsikamma National Park, forests and rivers.
East London, South Africa’s only river port, originally established as a supply port to serve the military headquarters at King William’s Town.
The village of Qunu, former President Nelson Mandela’s childhood home.
The world’s highest bunjee jump (180 m) at the Bloukrans Bridgeon the Storms River.
Outstanding, and varied, game reserves: the Addo Elephant, Mountain Zebra and Mkambati parks.
South Africa
South Africa performed very well in 2003 compared with global markets – the country posted a 4.2% increase in overseas arrivals and a 1.2% increase in total foreign arrivals (some 6.5 million arrivals) from 2002. Often described as “a world in one country”, South Africa offers the visitor a breathtaking variety of scenery, from desert and lush forest, to soaring mountains and vast empty plains. Culturally as diverse as the landscape, many visitors are drawn to experience for themselves the miracle of the peaceful overthrow of Apartheid. Others are attracted by endless golden beaches, big game, diving or snorkelling or bird watching. Whatever their reasons, visitors will find South Africa positively inviting, with world-class infrastructure, transport and accommodation.

Elephant House - South Africa

Elephant House - Addo - Malaria Free Eastern Cape

"The Elephant House" is an exclusive 9 bedroomed lodge situated near the Addo Elephant National Park in the fertile sun-drenched Sundays River Valley.
The wide verandas (filled with comfortable sofas) forming a series of courtyards are a defining feature, while the décor at Elephant House evokes colonial & African images and is furnished with the owners' private collection of antiques, Persian rugs and Africana art. The 9 spacious bedrooms open onto courtyards & private verandas.
The chef serves lovely light poolside lunches and after “sundowners” a memorable three course candlelit dinner is prepared with flair and personal attention.

After a safari, retreat back to the colonial luxury of The Elephant House – order an ice cold cocktail (we recommend a Bombay Sapphire G&T with Angostura bitters or another house specialty in Pimms No1!) and take a dip in one of the two swimming pools alternatively you may simply want to find a quiet corner in the gardens or one of the courtyards to put your feet up and relax with a good book. (After all, you are on holiday!)
In the high season (October to May), Monday to Friday Tobeka Gana, our in- house masseur is able to offer our guests a complimentary pampering session in her purpose built “treatment room and boma”
Full body massages - Manicures & Pedicures - Indian Head Massages - Sports massages

The kitchen prepares lovely light lunches on the terrace or beside one of the pools, and in the evenings , after a sundowner, sit down to a delicious three course dinner prepared by our chefs using the very best of local produce.

Things to do:
Addo Elephant National Park is one of the world’s great conservation success stories and embraces one of the highest concentrations of big game in Africa and thus offers some wonderful game viewing opportunities. In addition to the famous elephants of Addo there are also lion, buffalo, black rhino, hyena, jackal and a variety of antelope species. Of the smaller animals the surricates and the flightless dung beetle are of great interest. Over 150 species of birds have been recorded in the area.
The vegetation that one encounters in the area is known as “Valley Bushveld” - this is a biome unique to the river valleys of the Eastern Cape. The plants are tough and drought resistant (Addo’s average annual rainfall is 385mm) with a high proportion of succulents much loved by elephants, black rhino and kudu. Per cubic meter, Valley Bushveld is able to support more animals, birds and insects than any other biome on earth.
There are various game viewing options available in Addo and the surrounding area as well as some exceptional cultural encounters:
Elephant House Safari Co. Addo Elephant drives
Elephant House Safari Co. Valley Tour
Schotia “Tooth and Claw” Safari
“Big 5” Private Game Reserves
Addo Elephant Back Safaris and Walks
Addo Elephant National Park Horse Trails
Hike in the Zuurberg Mountains
